I will not be quiet about hope, when there are so many who need it.
As the sun sets on Australia's 'R U OK Day', I want to encourage everyone to truly listen to one another. Don't brush over jokes about suicide; don't try to wipe away the pain. Listen to it. Hurt with those who are hurting. Walk with them as they seek to find their way out of the pain, and encourage them to seek help.
Inspired by Clayton Jennings' song 'Dear Anxiety', I wrote this poem last year about battling depression, anxiety, and thoughts of suicide.
Two years ago I was going to kill myself; but I am still here and there is hope for those still fighting the darkness.
In Tom Walker’s song ‘Leave a Light On’, there is a picture of the prodigal son. It is not only God’s role to wait and embrace the returning prodigal. As we have freely received the grace of God, we must freely give it. It is our duty, as disciples of Christ, to act as the father - waiting for our prodigal sons, daughters, brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers and friends to come back to their home and to their identity as children of God.
